Max Mahmood is a 17-year-old drummer with a solid foundation in both jazz and heavy music. He began formal lessons at age 5 and was performing with bands by 8. His playing blends technical precision with creative range, developed through years of touring with hardcore and death metal bands, as well as studying and performing jazz at a high level.
He was the first freshman in 20 years to be accepted into the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble and currently plays in several groups around the Bay Area including the California Jazz Conservatory's Advanced High School Jazz Workshop and Studio Band. He's studied at Cuba's renowned Escuela Nacional de Arte and has received multiple honors at jazz festivals for solo and ensemble performance.
Max's discography includes recent work with Manos de Fierro, Iron Front, and Four Winds Away, among others. He brings a rare mix of discipline, versatility, and live experience to every project he joins.
